Sr. Paul Emelia Brown, OP

Sr. Paul Emelia Brown, formerly known as Margaret Mary Brown, died at Hospice at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla. She was 84 and in the 65th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Brown was born in Fort Pierce, Fla., to Edward and Emelia (Schatzeder) Brown. She graduated from St. Anastasia High School in Fort Pierce, Fla.; received a bachelor of education degree in secretarial science from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, and a master of science degree in administration/school supervision from Barry College (University) in Miami Shores, Fla.

Sr. Brown spent 41 years ministering in elementary and secondary education in Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Florida. In Michigan, she taught at Precious Blood School, Detroit (1949-51); St. Alphonsus School, Deerfield (1951-53); and SS. Peter and Paul High School, Ruth (1958-60). She was assistant principal for two years, and principal for six years at John Carroll High School in Fort Pierce, Fla.; and principal for two years at St. James School in Miami. Sister spent seven years in pastoral ministry at St. Anastasia Parish in Fort Pierce, and 16 years in pastoral and bereavement ministries at St. Joseph Parish in Stuart, Fla.

Sr. Brown is survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Hawkins of Vero Beach, and Rosemary Smith of Fort Pierce, both in Florida; and a brother, Paul Brown of Long Beach, Calif.

A remembrance will be held at 10 a.m. July 11 in St. Catherine Chapel, followed by the funeral liturgy at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI, 49221.
