Sr. Nancy Traylor, HVM, died on Ascension Sunday, May 12, after 10 years of living with cancer.

Sr. Traylor, born of Carey and Alyce (Stone) Traylor, attended St. Peter Claver nursery school, Detroit public grade schools and St. Martin High School.

By participating in after-school religion classes, she was led to be baptized at the age of 11 at St. John Nepomucene. In high school, she volunteered with the Home Visitors of Mary and worked at Sarah Fisher Home for Children. Nancy entered the Sisters, Home Visitors of Mary in 1957.

Sr. Traylor’s loving, gentle touch with young children was the focus of her ministry. From the Oakland Street Drop-In Center to her 10 years at St. Cecilia School, Sr. Traylor recognized the uniqueness and inner gifts of children and lead them forth, always rejoicing in life and its unfolding.

Sr. Traylor set up the preschool at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Port Huron. In Flint, she helped establish the Dukette Intercultural Center, was pastoral associate at Christ the King, and taught in many Bible schools.  Sr. Traylor’s funeral was at St. Cecilia Church, Detroit, on May 18
