Sr Bieszke
Sr. Mary Frederick Bieszke, CSSF, of Detroit completed her life’s journey of 85 years on Aug. 5 in St. Joseph Convent, Livonia. She was 69 years in religious life.
The former Theresa Bieszke was born Dec. 20, 1932, to John and Agnes (Zmich). In 1947, she entered the Seminary of the Felician Sisters, and was admitted to the postulancy in 1949. The following year she received the name Sr. Mary Frederick. First profession of vows was in 1951 and final profession in 1957.
From 1951-55, she taught in the Archdiocese of Detroit at St. Louis the King, Sacred Heart, and Patronage of St. Joseph. In September 1955, Sr. Bieszke was admitted to the School of Nursing at St. Joseph Hospital in Philadelphia, graduating as a registered nurse in 1958. In 1961, she enrolled in St. Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh in the program for anesthesia. She returned to St. Mary Hospital in 1963 as a nurse anesthetist and was appointed supervisor of the operating room.
With the construction of Marybrook Nursing Home and Marybrook Manor in 1991, Sr. Bieszke was assigned as a nurse consultant and resident community coordinator until 2008. She later served at St. Joseph Convent as minister and receptionist at the care center.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 8 at the Felician Sisters’ Central Convent in Livonia. Burial was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
