Sr. Mary Anne (Stanislaus) Huddleston, IHM

22-HuddlestonSr. Mary Anne Huddleston, IHM, 94, died Aug. 2 in the IHM Health Care Center in Monroe.

Sr. Huddleston was born May 18, 1920, one of three children to Frederick and Isabel (Robb) Huddleston of South Akron, Ohio. She graduated as a registered nurse from the Hospital of Saint John School of Nursing, Cleveland. She entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe in 1941.

Sr. Huddleston earned a bachelor’s degree from Marygrove College, a Master of Education from Boston College and a Ph.D. from Catholic University of America. She taught biology and physiology at Marygrove College from 1949-73 and went on to Boston College, where she studied and taught. She served on the School of Theology faculty of St. Mary Seminary and University in Baltimore and continued to teach and be involved in the biology department. After more than a decade at St. Mary Seminary, she returned to Monroe as a writer-in-residence at St. Mary Conference Center.

While living in Monroe, Sr. Huddleston published works as a freelance writer and ministered to many as a spiritual director until the last few years when her health declined. She moved to the Motherhouse in 2005 and only recently entered the IHM Heath Care Center.

Sr. Huddleston is survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia Huddleston, niece, Dr. Patricia Huddleston, and nephew, Robert Huddleston. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Robert.

Mass of Resurrection was Aug. 7 in the Motherhouse Chapel. Burial was to follow in St. Mary Cemetery on the Motherhouse Campus.
