Sr. Marie Amada Garcia, OP, formerly Marie Concepta Apodaca Garcia, died on April 10 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 98 and in her 78th year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Garcia was born in Albuquerque, N.M., to Eduardo Apodaca and Ramoncita Luna Apodaca. After the death of her father, Sr. Marie Amada’s mother married Charles Garcia, who adopted her.

Sr. Garcia earned degrees from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and the University of Detroit. She spent 45 years ministering in education in Michigan, Illinois, Arizona, New Mexico, Iowa, California and Nevada. In Michigan, she taught at St. Suzanne (1951-57) and Benedictine High School (1957-60), both in Detroit.

A funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel on April 13. Rite of Committal was to be in the Congregation cemetery.
