Sr. Margaret Ann Dirkes, OP, formerly Sr. Ann Vincent Dirkes, died Jan. 29. She was 85 and in the 66th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Dirkes was born in Detroit to Vincent and Alma (Yott) Dirkes. She graduated from Dominican High School in Detroit and received degrees in mathematics from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and University of Detroit (Detroit-Mercy), as well as a doctorate in education from Wayne State University.

Sr. Dirkes ministered for 45 years in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and Indiana. In Michigan, she taught at St. Paul, Owosso (1949-50); Guardian Angels, Clawson (1954-56); St. Ambrose, Detroit (1964-69); St. Paul, Grosse Pointe Farms (1969-71); Gabriel Richard, Riverview (1971-72); and Wayne State University.

She was also an independent writer from 1994-2013.

She is survived by a sister, Joan Dirkes Vismara of Grosse Pointe Farms, and a niece.

Mass of Christian Burial was to be Feb. 5 at St. Catherine Chapel. Ritual of Committal was to be Jan. 30 in the Adrian Dominican Sisters’ Cemetery.
