Sr. Janice Ernst, SC, (formerly Sr. Mary Victor) of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati died June 11 at the age of 83 in Mother Margaret Hall, the nursing facility of the Sisters of Charity.

Born Oct. 5, 1934, to Victor L. Ernst and Dorothy (Heydinger) Ernst in Bellefontaine, Ohio, she was the middle child of six and grew up in Springfield, Ohio. She was a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati for 65 years, entering in September 1952.

Sr. Ernst earned degrees from the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati and the University of Detroit. Throughout 35 years as an educator, she taught in Michigan, Colorado and Ohio, including at St. Luke, Detroit (1957-58); and St. Mary High/Lumen Christi, Jackson (1964-70). She later became certified for chaplaincy ministry in Ohio.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 15 at the Sisters of Charity Motherhouse chapel. Burial is in the Sisters of Charity cemetery.
