Sr. Janet Capone, OP, formerly Sr. Mary Leonard Capone, died July 29 at the Lourdes Senior Community in Waterford. She was 80 and in her 61st year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Capone was born in New York City to Leonard and Veronica (Hall) Capone. She earned degrees from Barry College (University) Miami, Fla., and Siena Heights College (University), Adrian.

Sr. Capone spent 19 years ministering in education in Florida and New York. After serving as an adult protective services counselor for two years, Sr. Capone served the Adrian Dominican Congregation as administrator of the Dominican Life Center for two years and prioress of the congregation for six years. She later served in California and Missouri.

A funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian on Aug. 6. Rite of Committal was to be in the Congregation cemetery.
