Sr. Jane Beehler, CSJ, entered eternal life May 2. A Mass of Christian Burial was held for her May 6.
Jane Beehler was born in Owosso on Jan. 16, 1932, the daughter of Arthur and Winifred (Knoblauch) Beehler. Jane was a member of St. Isidore Parish in Laingsburg at the time of her entrance into the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth on Jan. 2, 1950. She received the name Sr. Michael Marie at her reception on July 2, 1950, but later returned to the use of her baptismal name. She pronounced first vows on July 2, 1952, and final vows on July 2, 1955.
Sr. Beehler earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Nazareth College and a Master of Education in theology from Xavier University in Cincinnati. She later became a certified spiritual director. Sr. Beehler began as a teacher in several Michigan Catholic schools, including Immaculate Conception, Three Rivers; St. Dennis, Royal Oak; and Luke Powers High School, Flint. After 29 years as a teacher, she was elected to the SSJ administrative team for four years, and then served 12 years as a member of the Nazareth House team. Sr. Beehler served two terms as vice president of the governing board for the SSJ Federation. The remaining years of her ministry were devoted to giving individually directed retreats and spiritual direction as well as being the liaison for the Prayer Response Ministry Program.
