Sr. Irma Gerber, OP, formerly Elizabeth Martha Gerber, died July 29 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 97 and in her 79th year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Gerber was born in Flint to William and Signe (Wallin) Gerber. She earned degrees from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, the University of Michigan and the University of Notre Dame.

Sr. Gerber spent 35 years ministering in education in Michigan, Ohio and Illinois. She taught for 67 years in Michigan at Dominican High School, Detroit (1942-45, 1949); Visitation High School, Detroit (1945-49); Siena Heights College, Adrian (1949-54, 1959-75); St. Joseph Academy, Adrian (1958-59); and Wayne County/Henry Ford Community College, Detroit (1975-79). Sister was a provincial administrator of Immaculate Conception Province in Detroit for two years and a staff member in the finance office of the Adrian Dominican Sisters for 10 years, and then she volunteered her services there for an additional 20 years.

A funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian on Aug. 1. Rite of Committal was to be in the Congregation cemetery.
