Sr. Carol Denise Koenig, OP, formerly Mary Catherine Koenig, died July 1 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 85 and in her 67th year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Koenig was born in Ottoville, Ohio, to Carl and Elizabeth (Landwehr) Koenig. She earned a degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, and also had training as a hospital chaplain and in pastoral ministry.

Sr. Koenig spent more than 23 years ministering in elementary and secondary education in Michigan, Illinois, Nevada, New Mexico and Ohio. In Michigan, she taught at St. Agatha, Detroit (1951-53); St. Pius X, Southgate (1964-66); St. Suzanne, Detroit (1966-68); and St. John High School, Ypsilanti (1968-70). She also taught religious education and was pastoral minister for nine years at St. John Parish in Ypsilanti (1970-79), and for 17 years was development and alumnae director for the Dominican Learning Center (St. Joseph Academy) in Adrian (1983-98).

Funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian on July 6. Rite of Committal was to be in the Congregation cemetery.
