Orthodox, Catholic priests to share views

Detroit — An Orthodox priest and a Catholic priest will engage in an ecumenical reflection on “The Two Sides of the Cross: The Crucified and Resurrected Messiah” on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m.

Hieromonk Calinic (Berger), pastor of Holy Cross Orthodox Church in Hermitage, Pa., and Jesuit Fr. Peter Fennessy of Manresa Retreat Center in Bloomfield Hills will be the presenters.

The public is invited to this free event, sponsored by An Orthodox-Catholic Witness in Metropolitan Detroit, to be held at St. George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral, 18405 W. Nine Mile Road, just west of the Southfield Freeway (M-39) in Southfield.

Michael Hovey, of the archdiocesan Department of Parish Life and Services and a member of the group, said the presentations will “explore how are two traditions view some of the key elements of the faith, and show what we have in common and where, sometimes, we differ.”
