DETROIT — It was the same question the Apostles asked when Jesus ascended into heaven. Now what?

Starting Nov. 4 and throughout the week until Nov. 10, thousands of Catholics across the Archdiocese of Detroit have been taking the “Unleash the Gospel Challenge.”

The challenge involves watching six inspiring, animated videos detailing the core message of Detroit Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron’s pastoral letter, Unleash the Gospel, and the call all Catholics in the Archdiocese of Detroit share to become a band of joyful, missionary disciples.

Pastors and lay leaders across the archdiocese hope Unleash the Gospel Weekend will be the spark of a movement, in which Catholics will feel called to share the kerygma, the Gospel message that God loves them, that Jesus Christ died on the cross for their sins, and by rising from the dead, Jesus has conquered sin and death and brought salvation for all of mankind.

Unleash the Gospel Weekend has been building in the archdiocese for weeks, gathering together 550 volunteers to train them on delivering the challenge to every parish in the archdiocese.

Now, after watching the videos, where do participants go from here? Detroit Catholic sat down this week with Fr. Stephen Pullis, archdiocesan director of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools, to discuss what’s next for the movement.
