Project manager for missionary strategic planning process sits down with Detroit Catholic to talk about parish renewal

DETROIT — At Pentecost, Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron announced what he called the “next phase” of Unleash the Gospel, a movement of the Holy Spirit focused on parish renewal in southeast Michigan, with the goal of creating intentional disciples of Jesus Christ.

This next phase, called “Sent on Mission,” will ask each parish in the Archdiocese of Detroit to envision and create a “missionary strategic plan,” a measurable blueprint for evangelization based on six key pillars of Unleash the Gospelto re-imagine how Catholic parishes can be centers for missionary evangelization.

With nine parishes already undertaking the process, Detroit Catholic sat down with Deacon Mike Houghton, the archdiocese's recently named project manager for the missionary strategic planning process, to explain what “Sent on Mission” is all about, and how the initiative will impact the life of the local Church.
