Sr. Therese Mary Foote, OP, formerly known as Dorothy Foote, died on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Bixby Hospital in Adrian, Michigan. She was 92 years of age and in the 73rd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Therese Mary was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Francis and Florence (Walsh) Foote. She graduated from St. Ambrose High School in Detroit, Michigan; obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Michigan; received a Master of Science degree in Biology from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana; and earned a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Sister ministered in education for 24½ years in Detroit, Royal Oak and Adrian, Michigan; Grafton, West Virginia; and St. Charles, Illinois. This includes three years at St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, Michigan, and six years at Mount St. Mary Academy in St. Charles, Illinois, both institutions of the Congregation. In 1974, she became a registered pharmacist and from 1975-87 she served as pharmacist at the Maria Health Care Center (Dominican Life Center). She later ministered as pharmacist at Perry Drugs in Royal Oak, Liberty Drug stores in Southfield, and from 1989-2004, at Cherry Hill Pharmacy in Dearborn, all in Michigan. She became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2004.
Sister Therese Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert; and sister, Jean Stark. Sister is survived by loving nieces and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.
Welcome of Sister Therese Mary will be on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. in the Dominican Life Center Lobby; the Wake will follow from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. in the Rose Room of the Dominican Life Center. The Reception of the Body and Vigil Prayer will be at 7:00 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Monday, December 10, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. The Rite of Committal will be in the Congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221.
