May They Rest in Peace: Sr. Mary Tindel, OP

Sr. Mary Tindel, OP, formerly known as Sr. Carl Mary, died on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines, Florida. She was 86 years of age and in the 67th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister Mary was born in Miami, Florida, to John and Caroline (Gach) Tindel. She graduated from St. Patrick High School in Miami Beach, and received a Bachelor of Music degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and a Master of Musical Education degree in Music Education from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021.

Sister Mary spent 25 ½ years ministering in education in Farmington, Michigan; Toledo, Ohio; St Petersburg, Fort Lauderdale, Tallahassee, Miami Beach, Miami Shores, Key Biscayne, and Coconut Grove, Florida, including six years at Barry College (University) in Miami Shores, an Adrian Dominican legacy institution; and Guayama, Puerto Rico. Sister ministered as the director of music-liturgy for two years in Miami Shores. She ministered at the Archdiocese of Miami as the associate director of worship and director of music while also serving as the director of music at St. Mary Cathedral. She then continued her ministry at St. Mary Cathedral for an additional nine years. Sister Mary ministered as the coordinator of liturgical music at St. Thomas University in Miami for seven years and then as director of liturgical music for twelve years at parishes in North Miami and Miami Shores. 

Sister was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother John Tindel of Indianapolis, Indiana, a loving nephew, and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

Due to COVID-19 mitigation protocols, the Dominican Life Center is closed until further notice to all guests or visitors. All are welcome to participate in Sister’s wake and funeral via live stream at http://www.adriandominicans.org/LiveStream.aspx 

The Vigil Prayer will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021. Prayers of Committal will be held in the back of St. Catherine Chapel.
