Sr. Mary Joseph of St. Therese Remark, OCD, died Nov. 23, 2019, at the age of 98.
Born Rosemary Remark on March 17, 1921, Sister entered the Monastery of St. Therese on August 15, 1939, at the age of 18. and made her profession on October 15, 1941. In 1954, Sister Mary Joseph along with 5 other Discalced Carmelite Nuns went to Kansas City, Kansas and made the foundation of the Carmelite Monastery and she remained there for 32 years, 9 of those years she was the Prioress. The Monastery in Kansas City closed in 1986 and Sister came back to Detroit on the Marygrove College Campus.
Sister Mary Joseph was predeceased by her parents, Leo and Mary Lillian (nee Kuhn) Remark and also by her brother, John Remark. She is survived by several cousins and by her Carmelite Family.
Public visitation will be Tuesday 8 a.m.-6 p.m. (please call the Monastery at (586) 790-7255 to arrange a later time). Mass of Christian Burial is to be celebrated at the Carmelite Monastery of St. Therese, 35750 Moravian Dr, Clinton Twp. on Wednesday 10 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
