Sr. Mary Elizabeth Scheibel, OP, formerly known as Sr. Therese Johanna Scheibel, died on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 95 years of age and in the 77th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Mary Elizabeth was born in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Harriet (Nyren) Scheibel. She graduated from Aquinas High School in Chicago, Illinois, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.
Sister spent 25 years ministering in elementary education in Detroit and Farmington, Michigan; Henderson, Nevada; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Flossmoor, Hometown and Chicago, Illinois. She also ministered for 20 years in secretarial services in Oak Brook and Lombard, Illinois. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2003.
Sister Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, June and Patricia. She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

The Vigil Prayer will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Word Service will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2021. Prayers of Committal will be held in the back of St. Catherine Chapel.
