May They Rest in Peace: Sr. Mary Alice Naour, OP

Sr. Mary Alice Naour, OP, formerly known as Sister Francis Alice Naour, died on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 91 years of age and in the 73rd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister Mary Alice was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Francois and Blanche (Cote) Naour. She graduated from St. Ambrose High School in Detroit and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in Applied Music from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and a Master of Music degree in Music Education from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. She also worked toward a Clinical Pastoral Education certification at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.

Sister ministered in elementary and secondary music education for 33 years in Detroit, Paw Paw, and Ypsilanti, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; and Henderson, Nevada. This includes one year at Rosary High School and 14 years at Dominican High School in Detroit, Michigan, both of which were schools of the Congregation. She spent 27 years serving at the Dominican Motherhouse where she was Activities Assistant, Pastoral Minister and Assistant in the Liturgical Ministries Department. She was also a Clinical Pastoral Education Intern at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak for one year and a Pastoral Care Minister at St. Luke Parish in Detroit for one year.

Sister Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Estelle Steiger-Santon, Denise Wieme and Jaqueline Penet and four brothers, John, George, Paul and Cpl. James Naour. She is survived by other loving family and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

Prayers of Committal were held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 10, 2025, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI, 49221.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
