May They Rest in Peace: Sr. Marie Rosanna Flanagan, OP

Sr. Marie Rosanna Flanagan, OP, baptized Teresa Jane Flanagan, died on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 96 years of age and in the 76th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister Marie Rosanna was born in Detroit, Michigan, to John and Katherine (Caughlin) Flanagan. Sister graduated from St. Catherine High School in Detroit and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in History from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.

Sister spent 54 years ministering in education as a teacher and librarian in Detroit, Farmington, East Detroit (Eastpointe), and Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; and Cleveland and Shaker Heights, Ohio. This includes 28 years as the librarian at St. Paul School in Grosse Pointe Farms. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2012.

Sister Marie Rosanna was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Adela, Mary and Roseann, and a brother, John. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Therese Flanagan, loving nieces and nephews and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

Due to COVID-19 mitigation protocols, the Dominican Life Center is closed to all guests or visitors until further notice. All are welcome to participate in Sister’s wake and funeral via live stream at http://www.adriandominicans.org/LiveStream.aspx

The Vigil Prayer will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday, October 28, 2021, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 am Friday, October 29, 2021. Prayers of Committal will be held in the Congregation Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI, 49221.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.

  • Sister also volunteered in Fraser, Mich.
