May They Rest in Peace: Sr. Kathleen Therese McCann, OP

Sr. Kathleen Therese McCann, OP, baptized Mary Helen McCann, died on Monday, April 4, 2023, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 97 years of age and in the 75th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister was born in Bristol, Quebec, Canada, to Edmund and Mary Catherine (Bennett) McCann. She graduated from Holy Rosary High School in Detroit, Michigan, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin from Barry College (University) in Miami, Florida, and a Master of Education degree from University of Detroit (University of Detroit Mercy) in Detroit. She was also licensed in Clinical Pastoral Service by the United States Catholic Conference.

Sister Kathleen Therese ministered for over 25 years in elementary and secondary education in Lansing, St. Clair Shores, New Baltimore, Dearborn, and Detroit, Michigan, and West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Walton Beach, and Miami, Florida. She served 14 years as executive secretary to the Adrian Dominicans in Congregational offices in Adrian and in West Palm Beach, Florida. Sister also ministered 12 years as a chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital in Tampa, Florida, and one year at St. Mary Hospital in West Palm Beach. She became a resident at the Dominican Life Center in 2002.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Betty LePine, Beatrice Karakashian, Lois Healy and Therese Abraham and a brother, Michael McCann. She is survived by a brother, Donald McCann of Riverview, Florida, other loving family members and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

A Funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Thursday, April 13, 2023. Prayers of Committal were held in the Congregation Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI, 49221.
