Sr. Joseph Eilese Hukle, OP, baptized Helen Patricia Hukle, died on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 90 years of age and in the 71st year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Joseph Eilese was born in Miami Beach, Florida, to Joseph and Margaret (Hagan) Hukle. She graduated from St. Patrick High School in Miami Beach and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Barry College (University) in Miami. She was also certified as a gerontologist by the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Sister spent over 25 years ministering in elementary education in Detroit, Michigan; Jacksonville, St. Petersburg, and Miami Beach, Florida; and Santurce, Puerto Rico, which includes nine years as principal in addition to teaching. Sister served in ministry to the sick for three years at St. Ambrose Parish in Deerfield Beach, and in religious education for 15 years in Deerfield Beach, Lighthouse Point, and St. Petersburg, all in Florida. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2022.
Sister Joseph Eilese was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Margaret Mary King, Joseph Hukle and Edward Hukle. She is survived by loving family and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

Rite of Committal (burial) for Sister Joseph Eilese was held on Saturday, September 10, 2022, in the Congregation Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, in St. Catherine Chapel. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221.
