Sr. Jeanne Lenore Twomey, CSJ, entered into eternal life on Feb. 12, 2021.
Mary Judith Twomey was born in Detroit on Feb. 9, 1938, the daughter of John and Mary (Leonard) Twomey. She was a member of St. Ignatius Parish at the time of her entrance into the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth on Sept. 1, 1956. Mary Judith received the name Sister Jeanne Lenore at her reception on July 2, 1957. She pronounced first vows on July 2, 1959, and final vows on July 2, 1962.
Sister Jeanne Lenore earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Nazareth College and a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of Detroit. She taught in several schools of thee Congregation including St. Henry in Lincoln Park, St. Monica in Kalamazoo, St. Veronica in Eastpointe and as Administrator at St. Joan of Arc in St. Clair Shores and St. Patrick in Carlton. In 1997 Sister Jeanne Lenore returned to Nazareth and ministered as Coordinator of the Nazareth House Pastoral Care Staff. After completing 10 years in that position she became the Nazareth House Bookkeeper until poor health made it necessary for her to retire.
Sister Jeanne Lenore possessed a joyful, happy disposition and she lived life to its fullest. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, travel and visiting with family and friends. When afflicted with declining health she bore her cross with resignation and strength, but she manifested generosity of spirit even in the face of difficulty. Sister Jeanne Lenore’s love for God and the dear neighbor were evident during her life. She was always proud to be a Sister of St. Joseph and she lived out the CSJ values and virtues in an exemplary manner. Sister Jeanne Lenore was grateful to her family, CSJ congregation and friends for their love and support through the years. May she now walk in newness of life and live with Christ forever.
A live-streamed Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Ken Schmidt at St. Thomas More Parish, Kalamazoo, on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery will be on Friday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. A Memorial Mass at Holy Family Chapel, Nazareth Center, Kalamazoo, will be arranged at a later date.
