Sr. Jacqueline (Jackie) Rosanne Laster, RSM, a Sister of Mercy for 26 years, died May 19, 2024, at the age of 81.
Sr. Jackie was born Nov. 26, 1942, in Detroit, MI to the parents of Benjamin & Mildred Basye. She attended Eastern Michigan University majoring in Speech Pathology. She later married and had three children Kevin (Patricia), Kathryn and Charles. After raising her children and no longer married, she was called by God to enter the Sisters of Mercy in Detroit. As a Sister, she did Spiritual Direction and was also a Pastoral Associate. She enjoyed working with the parishioners and College students she came in contact with throughout her life. As her health deteriorated, she decided to move to North Carolina and retire at Sacred Heart Convent, the home for many of the Sisters of Mercy living in North Carolina.
Sister Jackie died on May 19, 2024. She was surrounded by her family and Sisters. She is survived by her community of Sisters, her sister Michelle Crenshaw, her three children, five grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Sacred Heart Convent in the Cardinal Gibbons Chapel, 500 Sacred Heart Circle, Belmont. The funeral Mass will also be live streamed and can be found here.
