Sr. Cora Marie Campbell, OP, baptized Genevieve Anne Campbell, died on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 88 years of age and in the 71st year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Cora Marie was born in Newberry, Michigan, to William and Genevieve (MacDonald) Campbell. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian and received a Bachelor of Science Education degree in History from Siena Heights College (University), also in Adrian, and a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics Education from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan.
Sister Cora Marie served over 50 years ministering in elementary and secondary education in Chicago, Illinois; Detroit, Brighton, Tecumseh, Sault Ste. Marie, and Marquette, Michigan; Marinette, Wisconsin; and Bradenton and Orlando, Florida. She also ministered two years as religious education coordinator for parishes in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and taught theology for nine years at Regina Dominican High School in Wilmette, Illinois. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2016.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: James, Paul, Peter, Matthew, and Kay Michael. She is survived by six brothers: Alex, Mark, Charles, Thomas, William, and John; and two sisters: Mary Walton and Cara Meyer; other loving family and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.
A Funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Prayers of Committal were held in the Congregation Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI, 49221.
