Sr. Charles Christine Uhnavy, OP, formerly known as Eunice Uhnavy, died on January 2, 2019, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 101 years of age and in the 80th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Charles Christine was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Charles and Olive (Spitzig) Uhnavy. She graduated from St. Mary High School in Royal Oak, Michigan, and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in History from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Michigan.
Sister spent 29 years ministering in elementary education in New Baltimore, Dearborn, Detroit, Anchorville and Royal Oak, Michigan. She taught for five years at St. Mary School in Defiance, Ohio; one year at St. Nicholas of Tolentine, and three years at St. Philip Neri, both in Chicago, Illinois. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan in 2012.
Sister Charles Christine was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Charles (Chuck), and two sisters, Vivian and Arlene. She is survived by loving nieces and nephews, all in Michigan.
Welcome of Sister Charles Christine will be on Friday, January 4, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. in the Dominican Life Center Lobby; the Wake will follow from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. in the Rose Room of the Dominican Life Center. The Reception of the Body and Vigil Prayer will be at 7:00 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. The Rite of Committal will be in the Congregation cemetery.
