Sr. Anne Bernadette Stein, OP, formerly known as Ruth Marie Stein, died on November 1, 2018, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 92 years of age and in the 71st year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Anne Bernadette was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Anthony and Frances (Stibich) Stein.
Sister graduated from St. Paul High School in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and a Master of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana.
Sister spent 25 years ministering in secondary education in Santa Cruz, California; St. Charles, Chicago, Wilmette and Elgin, Illinois; and Farmington, Michigan. This includes 18 years at Congregation institutions: Mt. St. Mary in St. Charles, Aquinas High School in Chicago, and Regina Dominican High School in Wilmette, all in Illinois. From 1973 to 1986, Sister was a secretary at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and in 1987, she began her 11-year position as bookkeeper at the Ann Arbor Credit Bureau in Ann Arbor. She became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2012.
Sister Ann Bernadette is survived by a sister, Barbara Pendolino (Gilbert). She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Eugene; a sister, Dorothy; and cousins: Sister Shirley Ruder, Sister Mary Coronata Stein, and Sister Marie Elizabeth Doherty, also Adrian Dominican Sisters.
Welcome of Sister Ann Bernadette will be on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. in the Adrian Room of Madden Hall; the Wake will follow from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. in the Adrian Room of Madden Hall. The Reception of the Body and Vigil Prayer will be at 7:00 p.m. in Holy Rosary Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be offered in Holy Rosary Chapel on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. The Rite of Committal will be in the Congregation cemetery.
