May They Rest in Peace: Sr. Anita Chiappetta, OP

Sr. Anita Chiappetta, OP, formerly known as Sister Jean Vincent, died on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 79 years of age and in the 61st year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.d

Sister Anita was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Vincent J. and Mary (Cavoto) Chiappetta. She graduated from Aquinas High School in Chicago and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and a Master of Education degree in Theology from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Sister Anita spent over nine years ministering in education in Defiance and Cleveland Ohio, and Utica, Port Huron and St. Clair Shores, Michigan. She served three years as a catechist/teacher trainer at St. Malachy Parish in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Sister Anita ministered 12 years as the business office manager at Human Growth Center, Inc., and 14 years as a social work assistant for the University of Michigan Hospital, both in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She also served the Congregation over 16 years as executive secretary in Central Services and to the General Council, co-provincial of St. Catherine of Siena Province, and office assistant for the Dominican Midwest Chapter Office. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2022.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jean L. Chiappetta. She is survived by her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

The Vigil Prayer will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday, June 1, 2022, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 am Thursday, June 2, 2022. Prayers of Committal will be held in the Congregation Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI, 49221.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.

  • University of Michigan Hospitals, Ann Arbor (1992-2006): Social Work Assistant
