Fr. Ronald A. Borg, CSB, entered eternal life on Nov. 5, 2023, at the age of 80.
Fr. Borg was born on Jan. 3, 1943. He enrolled in the seminary of the religious order of Basilian Fathers in Toronto and became a missionary priest. His first profession was on Oct. 15, 1960, and he was ordained a priest on June 2, 1979.
Before he was ordained, Fr. Borg served as an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-65, stationed in Texas. After he left the service, he moved back to Detroit and worked in the banking industry downtown.
Following ordination, Fr. Borg traveled the continent as a missionary priest with the Basilian Fathers. Fr. Borg settled back in Detroit to help is ailing mother, Eleanor, and served in the Archdiocese of Detroit as pastor of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish, Detroit (2013-14); St. Bartholomew-St. Rita Parish, Detroit (2007-14); St. Bartholomew Parish, Detroit (2007-10); St. Rita Parish, Detroit (2007-10); and as Administrator of St. Rita Parish, Detroit (2006-07) and St. Bartholomew Parish, Detroit (2006-07). He also served as parochial vicar at St. Bartholomew Parish, Detroit (2005-06), and St. Louis the King Parish, Detroit (1996-2005).
Fr. Borg is survived by his St. Bartholomew family and friends.
Visitation for Fr. Borg will take place on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, from 3 – 8 PM at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 36900 Schoenherr Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan 48312. He will lie in state on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at 9 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Blase Catholic Church, 12151 Fifteen Mile Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan 48312. Entombment will be at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East.
