Fr. Roger A. Knapp passed from this life on December 4, 2022, at the age of 70.
Fr. Knapp was born on Dec. 6, 1951, and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 22, 1985.
Fr. Knapp served as pastor of St. Victor Parish, Rockwood (1996-2009), and as administrator of St. Michael Parish, Pontiac (1995), and St. Augustine Parish, Richmond (1993). He also served as parochial vicar at St. Joan of Arc Parish, St. Clair Shores (1993-95); St. Clement Parish, Warren (1991-93); St. Theodore of Canterbury Parish, Westland (1989-91); St. Rene Goupil Parish, Sterling Heights (1986-89); and St. Patrick Parish, White Lake (1985-86). Fr. Knapp also served the spiritual needs of the religious women at Mt. Thabor Monastery in Oxford.
Fr. Knapp is predeceased by his parents, Julius and Lillian Knapp. He is survived by his brothers, James, Gary (Louise), Dennis; and sisters, Patricia (Alroy) Fabris, Linda (Thomas) Storch, Denise (Walter) Meadows, and Karen (Gregory) Braunlich. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 46401 Ann Arbor Road, Plymouth, on Dec. 9, from 3-8 p.m., with rosary at 6:30 p.m. Fr. Knapp will lie in state on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 9844 Woodward Ave., Detroit, at 10 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
