May They Rest in Peace: Fr. Robert Hayes Williams II

Fr. Robert Hayes Williams II passed from this life on Oct. 28, 2024, at the age of 69.

Fr. Williams was born on Aug. 29, 1955, in Highland Park, and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on Dec. 11, 1982.

Fr. Williams served as a judge on the Metropolitan Tribunal and as a member of the in solidum team of priests who pastor St. Justin-Saint Mary Magdalen Parish, Hazel Park; St. Mary Parish, Royal Oak; National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica Parish, Royal Oak; and St. Vincent Ferrer Parish, Madison Heights, that form the South Oakland 4 Family of Parishes.

Fr. Williams previously served as pastor of St. Justin Parish (1993-2013) and St. Mary Magdalen Parish (2012-13), both in Hazel Park, and as pastor of the combined parish of St. Justin-St. Mary Magdalen from 2013 to 2021. He also served as associate pastor of St. Rene Goupil Parish in Sterling Heights (1985-88), St. Lawrence Parish in Utica (1983-84), and St. Raymond Parish in Detroit (1982-83), and as administrator of St. Mary Parish in Wayne (1988).

Fr. Williams is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Estelle (nee Stathakis) Williams. He is survived by his sisters, Nikki (Claude) Phillips, Jacqueline (Tim) Menard, and Vicki-Alysse (the late Robert) Mervyn, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A rosary was offered for the repose of the soul of Fr. Williams on Sunday, Nov. 3, at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Hazel Park. A funeral Mass took place Monday, Nov. 4, at St. Justin Church in Hazel Park.
