Fr. Eugene E. Wojtewicz, passed on from this life on Feb. 22, 2019, at the age of 88.

Fr. Wojtewicz was born Dec. 20, 1930, in Detroit to Xavier and Mary (Mlodzik) Wojtewicz. 

He attended Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit; SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake; and St. John's Provincial Seminary in Plymouth before being ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 1, 1957.

Fr. Wojtewicz served as pastor of St. Hugh Parish, Southgate (1993-2009); St. Cyril of Jerusalem Parish, Taylor (1989-93); and St. Casimir Parish, Detroit (1970-89). He also served as associate pastor at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Parish, Hamtramck; St. Hyacinth Parish, Detroit (1962-70); and St. Francis D’Assisi Parish, Detroit (1957-62).

Fr. Wojtewicz also served as vicar of the old Hub Vicariate from 1988-91. He was granted senior status in 2009.

Visitation will take place at Czopek Funeral Home, 2157 Oak Street, Wyandotte, Michigan 48192 on Sunday, March 3, from 1-8 p.m. Visitation will continue at Our Lady of the Angels Parish, 6442 Pelham Road, Taylor, Michigan 48180 on Monday, March 4, from 1-8 p.m. with a Scripture Service beginning at 7 p.m.
 
Fr. Wojtewicz will lie in repose at Our Lady of the Angels Parish (address above) on Tuesday, March 5, from 10 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Fr. Wojtewicz was predeceased by his parents, Xavier and Mary (Mlodzik) Wojtewicz, his sisters Virginia Mazurkiewicz and Maryann Wojtewicz, and his uncle, the Rev. Emmanuel Mlodzik. He is survived by many loving cousins.
