Fr. Dennis J. Kauffman, CSB, died on Oct. 2, 2024 in Novi, Michigan, at the age of 76.
Ordained in 1979, Fr. Kauffman is a native of Rochester, N.Y., where he graduated from The Aquinas Institute, a Basilian high school. He earned a Master of Divinity from the University of St. Michael's College in Toronto and a Master's in High School Administration from Indiana University.
Throughout his ministry, Fr. Kauffman has served in various roles within Basilian schools, including as campus minister, teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator in Merrillville, Ind.; Albuquerque, N.M.; and Rochester, N.Y. From 2000 to 2007, he was the Basilian director of vocations. Since 2007, Fr. Kauffman served as director of school improvement at Detroit Catholic Central High School in Novi.
Fr. Kauffman was appointed to the Catholic Central board in 2012. He also served as the school's Dads’ Club moderator.
A visitation was held on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, in the chapel at Catholic Central High School, 27225 Wixom Road, Novi, MI 48374. A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, Oct. 7 in the gymnasium at Catholic Central High School. Fr. Kauffman will be laid to rest among the Divine Fathers at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
