May They Rest in Peace: Deacon Ronald L. McIntyre

Deacon Ronald Llewellyn McIntyre passed on from this life on March 27, 2024, at the age of 89. Deacon McIntyre is survived by his beloved wife, Amalia, 5 children and 9 grandchildren.

Ronald Llewellyn McIntyre was born on May 12, 1934, in Detroit, to Nathaniel and Cheaber McIntrye.

Deacon McIntyre was ordained to the permanent diaconate on Oct. 11, 1986. Deacon McIntyre served his first diaconal assignment at Gesu Catholic Church in Detroit from the time of his ordination until 1999. He then served at Holy Redeemer Parish until his retirement in 2017. Deacon McIntyre also spent time as director for the permanent diaconate program for the Archdiocese of Detroit (2000-04), as well as an assignment as coordinator of permanent deacons for the Office for Pastoral Ministries.

Earlier in life, Deacon McIntyre served in the Air Force from February 1953 to February 1957 as a radar technician. He was hired as the first black engineer at Detroit Edison in August of 1963. He served a number of positions there until his retirement in January of 1997. Ronald obtained his BSEE and MSEE from Wayne State University. He was also an avid golfer and sailor.

Deacon McIntyre was the beloved husband of Amalia (for 62 years); loving father of Carmen (Viktor), Norman (Ingrid), Maritza, Yvonne (Patrick) and Carlos (Tiffany) McIntyre; dear brother of Frances and Gary McIntyre; dearest grandfather of Natalia, Carlos, Diego, Leo, Sophie, Amalia, Xavier, Nathaniel, Lydia and the late Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Cheaber McIntyre and his siblings, Yvonne, Shirley and Allan McIntyre.

Deacon McIntyre’s visitation took place Monday, April 1, 2024, at Voran Funeral Home, 23701, Ford Road, Dearborn. Deacon McIntyre's funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Holy Redeemer Parish in Detroit. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
