Deacon Patrick Bruen passed on from this life on Feb. 14, 2025, at the age of 91. Deacon Bruen is survived by his beloved wife, Irene, seven children, 29 grandchildren, and 42 great grandchildren, including his son, Deacon Patrick Bruen, a transitional deacon for the Archdiocese of Detroit.
Deacon Bruen was born March 27, 1933, and was ordained to the permanent diaconate on June 10, 1978.
Deacon Bruen served his first assignment at Sacred Heart Parish in Dearborn until 1996, followed by an assignment at St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in Wyandotte until his retirement in 2005. Beyond his retirement, he more recently helped out at St. Stephen in New Boston. Deacon Bruen also spent time, beginning in 1995, as Associate for Diaconate Vocations with the Office of Pastoral Ministers.
Deacon Bruen's visitation will take place on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, from 2 to 8 p.m. at John Santeiu and Son Funeral Home, 1139 Inkster Road, Garden City, MI 48135, with a Rosary taking place at 7 p.m.
Deacon Bruen’s funeral Mass will take place on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at 11:30 a.m., at Church of the Divine Child, 1055 Silvery Lane, Dearborn, MI 48128. In state will begin at 10:30 a.m.
