Deacon Lawrence V. Sullivan passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday evening, June 19, 2019.
Deacon Sullivan was born in Detroit on May 1, 1941. He graduated from St. Thomas the Apostle, Detroit, in 1959, and was ordained a deacon on May 7, 1977, at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit.
Since his ordination he served six years at St. Anastasia, Troy, his home parish. He served at several parishes throughout his service. These parishes included St. Justin, Hazel Park; St. Lawrence, Utica; St. Martin de Porres, Warren; and St. Vincent Ferrer, Madison Heights. His final assignment was at Sacred Heart in Roseville, and he was granted senior status in 2013. He served on the Tribunal and also helped mentor new candidates entering the diaconate program.
Deacon Sullivan is survived by his loving wife, Andrea, of 50 years, daughter Suzette, and son Timothy (Holly). He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Helen Sullivan.
Deacon Sullivan loved his family, reading, history, church, Disney (a big Mickey Mouse fan), collecting memorabilia, an avid dog lover, meeting his friends at McDonald’s and any new electronic items that came on the market.
He also served his country in the United States Navy Reserve and Coast Guard.
Visitation will take place at E.J. Mandziuk Funeral Home, 3801 Eighteen Mile Road (at Ryan), Sterling Heights, Michigan, on June 24 from 3-9 p.m.
Deacon Sullivan will lie in repose on June 25 at St. Anastasia Parish, 4571 John R. Road, Troy, Michigan, at 9:30 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 10 a.m.
