Bro. David A. MacIntyre, CFC, died peacefully in the Lord, January 12, 2019. He was 79 years old. Br. MacIntyre was born December 24, 1939, in Anaconda, Montana to Mary (nee McCarthy) and Bennett M. MacIntyre.
A native of Butte, Montana, “Bro Mac” graduated from Boys Central High School in 1958 and that summer entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers. He professed his First Vows to religious life September 8, 1959, and Final Vows June 27, 1965. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Iona College in 1962 and went on to receive his Master’s in English from DePaul University in 1973.
Bro. Mac’s first mission was to Brother Rice High School in Chicago, where he taught from 1962-1967. From 1967-1980, he taught and later served as Principal of St. Laurence High School in Burbank, Illinois. On September 1, 1980, he began his service to the Brother Rice Community in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where he would spend the next 38 years. A brilliant mind, dedicated teacher, loyal colleague, devoted Christian Brother, and kind-hearted mentor to countless lives, Bro Mac was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by all. May he rest in peace.
He is survived by his siblings, Larry (Tricia) MacIntyre, Don (Kris) MacIntyre, Kevin MacIntyre, Charles MacIntyre, and Marilyn (Tom Machiorletti) MacIntyre. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Brian, Christy, Laurel, Leslie, Keely, Kelsi, Bennett, Shane, Scott, Kylee, Josh, and Corey. Br. MacIntyre was preceded in death by his brother, Bennett “Bill” MacIntyre, who died in Montana just an hour before him, January 12, 2019.
Visitation will take place at Brother Rice High School, 7101 Lahser Road, Bloomfield Hills, Friday, January 18th, 4-8pm with prayers at 7:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Regis Catholic Church, 3695 Lincoln, Bloomfield Hills, Saturday, January 19th at 10:30am. Friends may visit at St. Regis beginning at 10am. Burial will take place in the Christian Brother plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
