Lenten Promise: Spending more time with my family
“One thing I’m definitely trying to do this Lent is to try to see my family more and talk to them more, with them being so far away. My family lives in northern Michigan, and I live in Warren, so it is a little harder than usual to speak with them. So something I want to do this Lent is put a better focus on my family.
“Within my family, whenever we spend time together, we are always praying together, saying the rosary together or going to church together. It helps strengthens that bond we have as a family and our bond with Christ. So for this Lent, with the distance between us, I want to make the extra effort to see them when I can, to talk with them more often.”

Lenten promise: Abstaining from chocolate, spreading the Gospel
“As Archbishop Vigneron said, Lent is not only a time of self-healing, but a time to spread the good news. Every year I give up chocolate because it’s a vice that is hard for me, and that’s kind of what penance is. The important thing is my message, my commitment to my penance. To not only give up something I enjoy, but spread His word, to make sure people are enlightened and that God is the path to success in all aspects of life.
“Whatever it is we give up, it is a reminder that God is in our lives on a constant basis. So when it is a craving for something we enjoy, you are renewing yourself and the Lord by recognizing Him and giving Him thanks for all your blessings.”
