LA CROSSE, Wis. — The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem honored a member of its Detroit-Saginaw Section at the North Central Lieutenancy’s annual Investiture Weekend held in La Crosse, Wis., Oct. 4 -7.
In a solemn awards ceremony held on Oct. 5 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, Fr. Timothy Joseph Wezner, KHS, was presented with the coveted Pope Pius IX Award by Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki, KC*HS, of Milwaukee and coadjutor lieutenancy prior.
The Pius IX Award is presented to individuals in recognition of their singular accomplishments in service to the lieutenancy during the previous year. The award is named in honor of Blessed Pope Pius IX, who revitalized the order in 1847 when the Latin Patriarchate was restored. It was Blessed Pope Pius IX who charged the order with fulfilling a modern and peaceful mission to support the charitable works of the Latin Patriarchate in the Holy land.
Fr. Wezner is episcopal vicar for clergy discipline in addition to part-time duties as vice-chancellor of the Archdiocese of Detroit. He was invested into the order of the Holy Sepulchre in 2018 where he serves as the North Central Lieutenancy’s pilgrim master. He is a member of the order’s Detroit-Saginaw Section.
The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem is a Pontifical Order of Chivalry under the protection of the Holy See, with origins that can be traced back to the First Crusade. Members make a lifetime commitment to live a life of the order’s spirituality and make a commitment to the order’s mission of service and support for the Christians in the Holy Land. Today the order numbers over 30,000 members worldwide. The North Central Lieutenancy covers the states of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
