WARREN — The entire student body of De La Salle High School spent the day Sept. 27 serving at more than 20 sites across Metro Detroit during the school's third annual Day of Service.

The campus ministry team at the all-boys school organized the project as a way to serve various churches, nonprofits, cemeteries, schools and aid organizations and to teach students the value of a Christ-centered education.

“The Day of Service is a day where we give back to our community," said Ben Westphal, a who is involved in campus ministry at the school. "Service is a core Lasallian value that is so essential to our motto: 'Builders of Boys; Makers of Men.' This day offers the opportunity for students, faculty, and volunteers to witness those in need and to fill those needs with the talents we offer.”

Service activities included both indoor and outdoor efforts, including gardening, cemetery cleanups, classroom visits, moving furniture and assisting those with brain injuries and developmental disabilities.
