May They Rest in Peace: Sr. Mary Finn, HVM

Sr. Mary Finn, HVM, died Jan. 4, 2021. She was 86 years old.

Sister Mary was the first born daughter of Mary (O’Hara) and Frank Finn. She was raised on Detroit’s east side at St. David Parish. A great baseball and basketball player in her high school days, Mary entered the Sisters, Home Visitors of Mary in 1952. 

Funeral services will be held at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament on Jan. 7, 2021.

She received degrees from Marygrove College, Marquette University and Duquesne University in sociology, theology and religious anthropology. Her ministries included retreats and the Archdiocese of Detroit office of delegate for religious. Sr. Finn’s main focus was education and formation of seminaries, deacons and lay people at Sacred Heart Seminary. 

Preceded in death by her parents, beloved grandfather O’Hara, sister Patricia (Don) Barkume, other brother-in-law Ed Stano and nephew Jim Stano. Survived by her religious congregation, her sister Marge Stano, niece and nephews Maureen, Dan and Brien Barkume, and John and Patrick Stano along with their families and dear friend, Jacqueline (John) Ahern.  

Funeral services will be held at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament on Jan. 7, 2021. Viewing at 10 a.m. and Mass at 11 a.m. Arrangements made by Cole Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Sisters, HVM at 121 E Boston, Detroit, 48202.
