May They Rest in Peace: Sr. Margaret Ann Swallow, OP

Sr. Margaret Ann Swallow, OP, formerly known as Sr. Louis Arthur, died on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 97 years of age and in the 73rd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Margaret Ann was born in Alpena, Michigan, to Arthur and Mary Delilah (Mulavey) Swallow. She graduated from Immaculata High School in Detroit, Michigan, received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, and earned a Master of Arts degree in American history from the University of Detroit (University of Detroit Mercy) in Detroit. She was also certified as a nursing assistant by the Detroit College of Practical Nursing.

A Word Service will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2021. Prayers of Committal will be held in the back of St. Catherine Chapel.

Sister spent 27 years ministering in education in Clawson, Farmington, Detroit, Grosse Pointe Farms, Saint Clair Shores and Flint, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Assumption, Ohio; and Bronxville, New York. She was a Parish Committee Coordinator at Our Lady Gate of Heaven in Detroit for 3 years. She was also a nursing assistant for Quality Care for one year and a health care giver for 15 years in private homes in the Detroit metropolitan area. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan in 2009. 

Sister Margaret Ann was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by loving cousins and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

Due to COVID-19 mitigation protocols, the Dominican Life Center is closed until further notice to all guests or visitors. All are welcome to participate in Sister’s wake and funeral via live stream at http://www.adriandominicans.org/LiveStream.aspx 

The Vigil Prayer will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Word Service will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2021. Prayers of Committal will be held in the back of St. Catherine Chapel.
