May They Rest in Peace: Sr. Jeannine Therese McGorray, OP

Sr. Jeannine Therese McGorray, OP, baptized Annette McGorray, died on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, at the ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital in Adrian. She was 86 years of age and in the 70th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister Jeannine Therese was born in Buffalo, New York, to Vincent and Loretta (Kunzelman) McGorray. She graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in Buffalo, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.

A Word Service was offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021.

Sister Jeannine Therese spent 22 years ministering in education in Detroit, Brighton, and Northville, Michigan; Charlottesville, Virginia; and Miami Beach, Florida. She served as Eucharistic minister for three years in Northville and in pastoral ministry for 24 years in Mesa, Arizona, and as a care giver for two years in Tempe, Arizona. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2019.

Sister Jeannine Therese was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Kenneth McGorray and her sister, Gladys M. Off.  She is survived by her brother, Frank McGorray, of Lyndonville, New York, loving nieces and nephews and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

Due to COVID-19 mitigation protocols, the Dominican Life Center is closed until further notice to all guests or visitors. All are welcome to participate in Sister’s wake and funeral via live stream at http://www.adriandominicans.org/LiveStream.aspx 

The Vigil Prayer will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2021, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Word Service will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Rite of Committal will be held in the Congregation Cemetery.
