May They Rest in Peace: Sr. Ann Rena Shinkey, OP

Sr. Ann Rena Shinkey, OP, formerly known as Marilyn Shinkey, died on Friday, January 22, 2021, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 87 years of age and in the 60th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister Ann Rena was born in Streator, Illinois, to Frederick and Rena (Dominic) Shinkey. She graduated from Streator Township High School in Streator, Illinois; received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois; earned a Master of Physical Education degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, and obtained a Master of Education degree in Business Education from De Paul University in Chicago, Illinois.

A Word Service will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021. Prayers of Committal will be held in the back of St. Catherine Chapel.
Sr. Ann Rena Shinkey

Sr. Ann Rena spent 31½ years ministering in education in Detroit and Adrian, Michigan; and Oak Park, Wilmette, Chicago, Elgin, Rockford, Woodstock, and Rock Island, Illinois. She was Assistant Principal for five years at St. Edward High School in Elgin, five years at Boylan High School in Rockford, and one year at Alleman High School in Rock Island. Her education ministry also includes Congregation institutions: Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Michigan, Aquinas Dominican High School in Chicago and Regina Dominican High School in Wilmette, Illinois. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan in 2011.

Sister Ann Rena was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by loving cousins and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

Due to COVID-19 mitigation protocols, the Dominican Life Center is closed until further notice to all guests or visitors. All are welcome to participate in Sister’s wake and funeral via live stream at http://www.adriandominicans.org/LiveStream.aspx 

The Vigil Prayer will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2021, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Word Service will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021. Prayers of Committal will be held in the back of St. Catherine Chapel.
