Detroit-area Catholic schools ranked among best private schools in Michigan

DETROIT — Several Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Detroit have been ranked among the best private education institutions in the state, according to Niche, a national organization that annually ranks colleges and K-12 schools around the country.

Among the top 10 private K-12 educational institutions in Michigan, three are Catholic: Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy in Pontiac (No. 3), Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills (No. 5), and Everest Collegiate High School and Academy in Clarkston (No. 7). 

Notre Dame Prep also ranked as the seventh-best private high school in the state and the top overall Catholic high school. Detroit Catholic Central High School in Novi was ranked No. 8 among private high schools, and University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy rounded out the list at No. 10. 

According to the website, Niche's rankings are based on several factors, including SAT/ACT scores, the percentage of seniors who go on to attend college, culture and diversity, teacher-student ratios and self-reported reviews of the schools from parents and students. 

Among the best Catholic high schools on Niche's list, the top 10 all reside in the Archdiocese of Detroit:

  1. Notre Dame Preparatory School, Pontiac
  2. Detroit Catholic Central High School, Novi
  3. University of Detroit Jesuit High School, Detroit
  4. Marian High School, Bloomfield Hills
  5. Academy of the Sacred Heart, Bloomfield Hills
  6. Brother Rice High School, Bloomfield Hills
  7. Mercy High School, Farmington Hills
  8. Everest Collegiate High School and Academy, Clarkston
  9. Shrine High School, Royal Oak
  10. Divine Child High School, Dearborn
