Deacon John Benjamin Wallace, 90, of Alanson, went to be with his Lord on Nov. 23. He was born June 2, 1922, in Redford Township, the son of John B. and Cecilia (Brahm) Wallace. He grew up in Detroit and graduated from Cass Tech High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. After his military service, he attended Lawrence Tech, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering.
On Feb. 25, 1948, he married Betsy Buckley of Highland Park. The couple made their home and raised their family in Detroit. John was employed with Detroit Edison for 35 years, retiring in 1984. After retiring they moved to Indian River, where they had lived since.
John was an active member of the Cross in the Woods Parish in Indian River and had served as a deacon for more than 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and spending time with his family.
Deacon Wallace is survived by his wife, Betsy; children, Laura Wallace of Plymouth; John B. (Jill) Wallace of Detroit; Donald Wallace of Roseville; Marie (Jay) Bennett of Houston; Marti Wallace of Royal Oak; Amy (Scott) Schuster of Rochester Hills; and Christine (Jim) Schultz of Pleasant Ridge; nine grandchildren and one great grandson; siblings John (Mary) Wallace of Indian River; Cecilia Clos of Westland; many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his siblings Margaret Latter, John Benton Wallace, Carol Wolfcale and John Brian Wallace.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Nov. 27 at The Cross in the Woods Shrine in Indian River.
