DETROIT — Bishop John M. Quinn, bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester, Minn., and a former Detroit auxiliary bishop, celebrated Mass with members of Metro Detroit's law enforcement community May 17 at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

The annual celebration, traditionally known as a "Blue Mass," honors first responders and asks God to protect them in the line of duty, and to help them in their calling to be servants of the common good.

Bishop Quinn encouraged the police and law enforcement in attendance to use their authority to build trust with the people they serve, while being stewards of the grace God gives them in their profession.
