Ticket package includes limited-edition Tigers ballcap with 'Unleash the Gospel' logo
DETROIT — A solid 32 ½ games out of first place, the Detroit Tigers don’t have a prayer. Nonetheless, thousands of Catholics will descend upon Comerica Park to cheer on the boys of summer.
The Archdiocese of Detroit’s Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools is sponsoring “Catholic Night at Comerica Park” on Sept. 10 during the Tigers’ 6:40 p.m. game against the New York Yankees.
The ballgame is a chance for families to spend some time together downtown at Comerica Park and support Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan, explained Fr. Stephen Pullis, director of evangelization, catechesis and schools for the Archdiocese of Detroit.
“Catholic Night at Comerica Park is one of the Tigers’ themed ticket nights that the archdiocese is sponsoring as part of our ‘Unleash the Gospel’ movement,” Fr. Pullis said. “This is a fun opportunity for us as Catholics to witness the faith together outside the Church.”
Paws, the Detroit Tigers mascot, visited the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica in Royal Oak after the 9 a.m. Mass on July 14 to promote the event, and is scheduled to be at the Falcon 5K at Divine Child Parish in Dearborn on Aug. 10.
Parishes and parishioners are encouraged to purchase tickets through a special promotional link (https://www.mlb.com/tigers/tickets/specials/catholic-night). Each ticket package includes a Detroit Tigers cap featuring the “Unleash the Gospel” logo in red and a donation to Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan.
Those who purchase a ticket and cap can redeem their purchase by presenting their ticket barcode at the group kiosk in Section 332 in the ballpark before the end of the third inning. Tickets range from $29 in the upper grandstands along the third-base line to $46 for the lower baseline by the foul poles. Children 3 and younger are free on an adult's lap.
