Detroit — National Vocation Awareness Week, started in 1976 by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops as a week set aside for the faithful to pray for increased vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life, has taken place in January since 1997. This year, however, the celebration has been moved to the first full week in November, and so has this special supplement to The Michigan Catholic.

As a single Catholic community in southeast Michigan, we pray especially for the 41 men in formation for the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Detroit. The Michigan Catholic invites our readers to join us Nov. 2-8 in praying for them by name, that they may effectively discern God’s will in their lives, and that if called to the holy priesthood, that they may be faithful servants of the Lord’s people.

We pray especially for the five men who will be ordained this coming year: transitional Deacons Mario Amore (Our Lady of the Woods, Woodhaven), Sean Bonner (Immaculate Conception, Lapeer), Brian Meldrum (St. Thecla, Clinton Township), Jacob VanAssche (St. Stephen, New Boston) and Radoslaw Zablocki (Our Lady of Czestochowa, Sterling Heights).

In addition to the seminarians listed below, we pray also for those discerning vocations as religious-order priests, brothers or sisters, and all other vocations. May God be with them and guide them.
