GRAND RAPIDS — The Catholic High School League in partnership with Aquinas College is announcing the Aquinas Alumni First Pitch Competition.

The invitation is open to all Aquinas alumni who are employed at a school, organization or institution within the Archdiocese of Detroit.

The winner will have the opportunity to throw out the first pitch with Aquinas’ mascot, Nelson, at the CHSL baseball championship at Comerica Park on May 24.

To enter, log on to www.aquinas.edu/firstpitch by the deadline of May 10. Nelson will draw the winner on May 13. Please direct any questions to Aquinas College [email protected]

Earlier this year, the CHSL and Aquinas College announced a collaboration in support of CHSL activities. In addition to sponsoring top-quality athletic contests at Metro Detroit’s most recognizable venues, the Grand Rapids-based college will partner with the CHSL’s ongoing faith formation and service activities, and will provide leadership development and educational opportunities for student-athletes.

“I think Aquinas College and the CHSL are a perfect match,” said Vic Michaels, CHSL director.  “Aquinas College is founded on the ideal of St. Thomas Aquinas, a model teacher who pushed his students to think deeply and lead with apostolic boldness. Our coaches strive to do the same for our student-athletes.”

Aquinas College, an inclusive educational community rooted in the Catholic and Dominican tradition, provides a liberal arts education with a global perspective, emphasizes career preparation focused on leadership and service to others, and fosters a commitment to lifelong learning dedicated to the pursuit of truth and the common good.
